Fred
House, who resides on North Green Street,
was killed this morning by being struck on the head by a falling tree. About 11
o’clock County Coroner Barcus received word concerning the death of Mr. House
and he accompanied by C. M. Scott, went down to hold an inquest. It was learned
that House and his son with several other men were cutting wood upon the farm
of James Thompson, three miles below Yountsville. Mr. House was cutting down a
tree that stood some distance from where the others were working, and no special
notice was paid to him. After the tree had been down some fifteen minutes, his
son came along and was horrified to see his father lying on the ground dead.
The tree in sailing had struck another tree, which was also brought down and
which struck Mr. House on the top of his head, a little to the back.
His skull was crushed into hundreds
of pieces, and death must have been instantaneous. After the Coroner had
concluded his examination, the body was brought to the undertaking rooms of
McClure & Scott and prepared for burial. The deceased leaves a wife and
several children, the youngest a babe.

Tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock, Rev.
G. P. Fuson will conduct the funeral services of Fred House, who was killed by a falling tree yesterday. The
interment will be made at Mt. Tabor
Cemetery.
